Aegion Energy Services is looking for an experienced Human Resources Business Partner.

Responsibilities

 

  • Point of contact for southern CA Aegion Energy Services (AES) employee population.
  • Consults with line management, providing human resources guidance.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the Legal department as needed.
  • Manages labor law poster distribution and maintenance.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line managers (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, etc.).
  • Participates in Human Resources’ responses to third-party inquiries, hearings and cases, i.e., DFEH and EEOC claims, unemployment hearings, legal demands, union grievances, etc.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides functional support to human resources partners, including assisting with trouble-shooting benefit and payroll issues.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Updates employee files to document personnel actions and utilizes employee files to provide information for payroll and other employment related uses.
  • Provides human resources policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs, in partnership with Training department.
  • Works on human resources projects, as assigned by Director of Employee Relations and/or other Human Resources department management.
  • Attends business meetings, reinforcing Human Resources department’s partnership with business leaders and offering subject matter expertise.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets general human resources source materials, professional journals, and/or governmental regulations. 
  • Writes reports, and prepares business correspondences. 
  • Effectively and credibly presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers and employees. 

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Ability to pass background check.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in conducting workplace investigations, presenting findings and making recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, employee relations, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.
  • Union/labor relations experience.
  • Functional proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment with dotted line reporting relationships to multiple client-managers in geographically dispersed locations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and solid customer relations skills.
  • Ability to travel by car regularly for travel within the Orange/Los Angeles county areas to local refineries and other job sites.

 

Preferred Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Oil/gas industry experience.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification and/or a degree in a Human Resources related field of study.
  • Intermediate / Proficient user with Microsoft Excel, including performing pivot tables, formula creation, data manipulation, v-lookups, and demonstrated analytical skills.
