    Position Summary


    The Director, HSE’s position will be responsible for the overall management of a Business Unit’s compliance processes in CPP.  The position can be based in any of the Aegion office locations. 

    Supervisor Responsibility

    This position may have direct reports.  It will have to work within a network of team members who have safety responsibilities.

    Position Responsibilities & Accountabilities

    • Work with senior management (and external specialists as necessary) to direct the development of an effective global strategy to assess and mitigate strategic and operational safety and security-related threats/risks, manage crises and incidents, and safeguard the organization.
    • Develops and manages departmental budget.
    • Facilitates open and candid safety related communications with all frontline employees in an effort to improve safety outcomes.
    • Develops and manages business unit’s Safety Program, policies, and procedures.
    • Plans and implements safety training.
    • Assess effectiveness of safety program activities, policies and procedures and implement changes to improve results and achieve objectives.
    • Demonstrate staff development.
    • Research and implement new safety regulations as they relate to enforcement of the safety program.
    • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with ability to motivate and empower, reports to take initiative and function independently.
    • Demonstrate people management decisions and comfortable in a senior management position.


    Qualification Requirements:

    Education and/or Experience:
    The individual will possess a minimum of twelve years of progressive quality experience or with a degree from an accredited university or CSP/CRSP designation.  Experience working with regulatory agencies, external auditors and internal clients is a must.  The individual must have safety training experience.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information to individuals or groups (management, clients, customers, general public) and respond to questions.
    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and apply basic statistical, algebraic and geometric concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volumes, etc.
    Reasoning Skills:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists and interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Leadership Skills:

    Position requires individual to have strong interpersonal skills with ability to motivate and empower, to be a strong communicator able to take initiative and function independently. Must be capable of making people management decisions and comfortable in a management position.
    Personal Attributes:

    Position requires the individual to be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.

    Ability to work with complex spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.  Ability to learn new applications quickly. Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.
