    Brinderson LLC, a subsidiary of the Aegion Corporation is looking for an experienced Senior Safety Analyst for the Central and Southern California Region.




    • This position is responsible for the promotion and management of Aegion Way Values, HSE Mission & Vision Objectives consistently across the Central and Southern California region.
    • Mentor, coach, evaluate and assist team members in the effective and accurate reporting and use of Company processes such as:
    • Industry-Safe (injury/illness/incident tracking and responsive database)
    • Environmental Metrics
    • Risk Assessments
    • Follow up to corrective actions and other safety initiatives
    • Collaborates with VP Operations and Regional HSSE Manager on site safety improvement plans.
    • Development, implementation and assessment of Safety Management Systems.
    • Enter and track safety metrics and information, including the input of incident investigations/corrective actions into our HSSE database software system.
    • Analyze safety data/trends, develop mitigation plans and make improvement recommendations (create reports, charts, and presentations as necessary).
    • Function independently, as well as in a team environment.
    • Execute Corporate Safety Goals, SOP & Objectives for continuous improvement.
    • Act as site safety manager or project safety manager as needed on occasion to meet company needs.
    • Co-locate in office and at a site as necessary to conduct and assess site safety culture and environment.
    • Reports to the Brinderson HSSE Director based on reporting region and field assignment/location.
    • Responsible for ensuring that each Maintenance Site or Major Project in the Region is in compliance with Department and Client policies and procedures, and has achieved or is working towards achieving a pro-active, positive safety culture.
    • Mentors and supports the development of Site Safety Managers, to assist them in building positive safety cultures at the site and effective working relationships with Operations.
    • Assists in the roll-out and implementation of new HSSE policies, programs or practices.
    • Develops a thorough working knowledge of the HSSE functions as they relate and correspond to, regulatory compliance, company policy and procedures, client procedures and best practices.
    • Develops reports, plans, conducts assessments, provides trend analysis, and manages records related to the overall Region’s safety performance.
    • Provides leadership in Incident investigations, Injury management situations, audits or other critical safety events.
    • This position requires the ability to effectively influence an organization at all levels to achieve safety performance standards developed by Aegion Energy Services.


    Daily Responsibilities:

    • Administrative review and support of job permits.
    • Preparation and/or guidance with the daily JHA, pre-use inspections, pre-job hazard assessment and all other pre-job documentation for hazard identification/mitigation – daily implementation of proactive measures for hazard controls identified.
    • Interface with clients and site leadership.
    • Support Regional Safety Team with Case Management and Workmen’s Compensation cases.
    • Implement proactive steps for improved safety culture.
    • Participate where applicable in contractor safety meetings.
    • Provide expertise to onsite representation with regards to customer inspections and audits of jobsites.
    • Monitor and direct Safety team on the process for substance abuse screens (random and for cause), including providing or coordinating escort to and from the testing facilities/clinic.
    • Monitor and direct Leadership/Employees to the proper process of maintaining an active approved drivers list for the jobsite.
    • Direct support of unplanned jobs, incidents and/or customer requests as needed.
    • Attend meetings as needed to review incidents, inspections, audits, regulatory compliance, client-based concerns, etc.
    • Supervise, collect, archive and when necessary prepare and ship documentation to the proper location based on record retention procedures.


    Weekly Responsibilities:

    • Provide and/or coordinate weekly safety performance reports to Regional HSSE Manager & VP Operations based on site performance.
    • Monitor the need for and coordinate the action of if needed, site employee training per client and/or regulatory requirements, i.e. crane operations, rigging, confined space, site specific training, etc.
    • Review/discuss with site supervision the results and proactive control measures discovered during site audits.
    • Mentor, coach, collect, review and input employee observations (HSOR cards or equivalent)


    Monthly Responsibilities:

    • Report and analyze by the 5th of each month, from the previous month, the Monthly Safety Statistics Report (MSSR) to Corporate & Brinderson HSSE Director.
    • Collect, summarize and report leading indicator data Client and Regional Management (including, but not limited to employee observations and leadership observations).
    • Follow up with any substandard acts/conditions identified during review of all observations.
    • Collect, summarize and report lagging indicator data (i.e., employee incidents closed, corrective actions identified and proper reporting in IndustrySafe®).
    • Review and reporting (if applicable) to clients the results of site safety audits/inspections.
    • Provide and/or coordinate additional safety training needs.
    • Review, evaluate and develop mitigation plans from relevant safety trend analysis.
    • Support, evaluate and coordinate efforts to address any customer needs (i.e. new client best practices and/or new client requirements).
    • Support, evaluate and coordinate safety incentive programs (i.e. Focus Four and/or client based programs).
    • Support Northwest Region when applicable based on-site exposures, Workers Compensation Program and case management.
    • Attend monthly “All-Hands” calls coordinated by Corporate HSSE.


    Quarterly Responsibilities:

    • Present CSER findings and support with site improvement plan implementations.
    • Analyze Quarterly Focus Four Leadership training objective for consistency and quality participation.


    • Degree/certification in Health, Safety and Environmental Management or related science/engineering area preferred; and/or equivalent experience/training leading to the thorough understanding of health, safety and environmental disciplines.
    • Experience working on multi-employer worksites with contractors.
    • Knowledge of governmental HSE standards, rules and regulations.
    • Knowledge of client best practices and standards utilized in our work environments.
    • Sound understanding of hazard recognition/mitigation techniques
    • Ability to work with computers and automated information systems for safety.
    • Possess training and presentation skills
    • Must be able to communicate with all levels of the Company, plant employees, contractors and community.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
